Online training is the process of acquiring knowledge and skills using online programs or web pages as opposed to books or personal teaching.
‘Blended’ training, combining online training with one or more of the other elements is also often seen.
All the information needed for the online training subject is included within the online training program, allowing trainees to complete the whole course at their own pace from their computer.
Online training can target specific skills required, for example providing training on the salient features in a new product that is being introduced. Or it can be aimed at improving general understanding and knowledge such as an update to a corporate customer service philosophy.
Because online training is done on the computer, it lends itself to easy management on a computerised Learning Management System, in which the training can be scheduled, recorded and managed.
